Camp Lighting

Good camp lighting is usually three lights doing three jobs: a headlamp for anything you do with your hands, a lantern that lights the table or the inside of the tent, and a soft light that makes the campsite easy to move around after dark. All three of ours are rechargeable or solar, so there are no spare batteries to pack.

The rechargeable COB headlamp uses a wide COB beam that lights the ground in front of you and to the sides, which suits setting up camp, walking to a stand in the dark or working under a hood. It has a built-in 4000 mAh battery (2 x 18650), charges over USB-C and runs for about 2 to 4 hours.

The rechargeable camp lantern hangs from a loop, stands on a table or sticks to a truck or tool box with its magnetic base. It has a 4500 mAh battery (3 x 18650), USB-C charging, a runtime of about 4 to 5 hours, and white, warm and red flashing modes with stepless dimming.

For the softest light, the solar tent light charges from the sun and includes an attached run of warm-white string lights, with a button control and a hanging hook. If you only buy one light, buy the headlamp; add the lantern when more than one person shares a camp.

A few habits get more from rechargeable lights. Charge everything fully the night before a trip, and bring a USB power bank if you will be out for more than a night or two. Use the lowest brightness that does the job, since runtimes on the product pages are estimates and drop at high output. Red light helps keep your night vision when you step away from the fire.
